Our Story

A Hidden Gem in the Heart of Buda

Located at 100 Main St in Buda, Texas, Brooklyn's Down South is a family-owned restaurant built on from-scratch cooking and bold, carefully layered flavors. Our menu is an eclectic menu centered around fresh ingredients and Southern-inspired cuisine — comfort food done right, with heart and intention in every dish.

Whether you're in for a weekday lunch, weekend brunch, or a night at the bar — we bring the same warmth to every plate and every guest.

The Journey

One Historic Corner on Main Street

For over a century, the corner at 100 Main Street has been a Buda gathering place. Here's how it became Brooklyn's Down South.

1907
E.J. Cleveland Arrives
E.J. Cleveland moved to Buda and began working at the local mercantile.
1913
A Store of His Own
He stepped out on his own, building a general store that sold everything from farm equipment and groceries to insurance — even housing a tiny neighbor-run hat shop inside.
Late 1920s
Changing Hands
Drought and shifting crops led to the store's closure. The building went on to serve as a hardware store, a tractor dealership, and more.
1940s
Buda Grocery & Market
A local family brought groceries back to the corner. For nearly 70 years, Buda Grocery & Market was the heart and soul of the neighborhood — until it closed in 2013.
2013
Cleveland's Restaurant
Later that year, the building reopened as Cleveland's Restaurant, which operated through the end of 2016.
2017
Brooklyn's Down South
The doors opened once more — reborn and renamed Brooklyn's Down South, serving Texas-inspired Southern comfort food right where it all began.
Turning 10
The Journey Continues
We're about to celebrate nearly a decade of serving Buda — sharing great food and being part of so many special moments — and we can't wait to mark it with the community that has supported us all along the way.
